Join us for three extraordinary days as Columbus, Kansas transforms into a celebration of color, wonder, and community spirit. Watch magnificent hot air balloons dance across the prairie sky, enjoy live entertainment from talented local and regional artists, and savor the flavors of our beloved community.

This isn't just an event—it's a Columbus tradition that brings families together, creates lasting memories, and showcases the warmth of small-town Kansas hospitality.

🌾 Scarecrow Contest

A Little Hometown Fun for Everyone!

Help us bring a little fall charm and hometown spirit to downtown Columbus!

Businesses, organizations, families, and individuals are invited to create a scarecrow and join in this fun community tradition. Get creative, have some fun, and help make the square a festive place for everyone to enjoy.

Register your scarecrow with the Chamber Office.

🏆 Prizes
Prizes will be awarded for two places.

Quilt Show

Come enjoy a wonderful display of quilts and hometown craftsmanship.

Quilts will be accepted at the Columbus Public Library Tuesday, October 6 through Thursday, October 8.

Bean Feed

Maple Street at Commerce Bank

Enjoy an evening of good food, friendly faces, and hometown fellowship at the annual Bean Feed.

Come gather with friends and neighbors, relax, and enjoy this favorite Columbus Day Festival tradition.

Beverages will be available for purchase.

Rain or shine: In case of inclement weather, the Bean Feed will be held at the City Park Pavilion.

A Hometown Tradition

Come downtown and celebrate a special Columbus tradition as we crown our Little Mr. & Miss Columbus!

Meet the children, enjoy the excitement, and watch as they receive their crowns on the historic courthouse steps. Bring the whole family and be part of this cherished hometown celebration.

Location & Directions

📍 SW 20th Street — Columbus, KS

From W. Hwy 160, head toward W. Maple Street.

Turn onto W. Maple Street, then enter Riverside Drive.

Follow Riverside Drive to the event location on SW 20th Street.

Please enter from W. Maple Street onto Riverside Drive.

Location is weather permitting.

Please follow the designated entrance and watch for event signage.

Lift off between 7:00 and 7:30 am, weather permitting.

Watch for signage. Enter off W. Maple Street onto Riverside Drive.

Enjoy the exciting Hare & Hound Race between the balloons!

Parking: $10.00 parking fee or a car pass is good for all balloon event parking.

Pancake Breakfast

7:00 AM – 9:30 AM

First United Methodist Church

Start your festival day with a delicious hometown breakfast at the Pancake Breakfast, hosted by the Columbus Area Churches.

Enjoy a warm meal with family and friends while supporting a great cause. All proceeds benefit the Summer Lunch Program, helping provide meals for local children.

Gather around the table, visit with neighbors, and enjoy a classic community tradition before a full day of Columbus Day Festival activities.

5K Run, Walk or Jog

Come downtown and celebrate the spirit of Columbus, Kansas, as friends, families, community groups, local organizations, and parade participants come together for a morning of hometown fun! 🇺🇸

Bring your lawn chairs, find a spot along the route, and enjoy the music, waving flags, colorful floats, and hometown pride that make this parade a special Columbus tradition.

Demonstrations & Wheat Threshing

Step back in time and experience a piece of our agricultural heritage!

See a wheat threshing and shelling demonstration, along with a special collection of more than 40 pedal tractors on display.

This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy hands-on history and see the tools and traditions that helped shape our community.

Hometown Horsepower & Old-Fashioned Fun

Step back to a simpler time and enjoy an afternoon of engines, tractors, friendly competition, and good old-fashioned community fun!

The Midwest Pullers will bring their geared-up Mini Rods and Garden Tractors to the Saddle Club Arena on Park Street for an exciting afternoon at the pull!
